Have you received one or more letters from a “deed retrieval” company? I have. Most of my clients have. And you know what? They’re a SCAM.
You can receive a copy of your deed for free, at any time, from the clerk of courts website. A few minutes of your time and your printer are all that you need.
How do you access a copy of your deed?
Go to www.leeclerk.org. Choose online service, search official records.
On the next screen click public search; a new window will open. In that new window there will be a disclaimer – agree to the terms (but only if you do!).
After agreeing to the terms another screen will show and at the top of the page a place for name (your name goes here) and document type (choose or type deed). To narrow results the date field may be used – example: only searching +/- 30 days of the day you closed on your home.
Choose your name from the list:
So if you get one of these, be kind and recycle it. They only want your $$$
