Henry and Clara Ford purchased their winter retreat in Fort Myers, right next to the winter home of their friends Thomas and Mina Edison in 1916. The purchase price was $20,000 for about three acres of riverfront gardens with a lovely Craftsman style bungalow. Ford would spend many winters in Fort Myers with his mentor and friend, Thomas Edison. Their adjacent Florida estates would provide great getaways for the friends to relax, explore Florida, and of course, talk business and innovation.
